OUR PREVIOUS LEGISLATIVE & ELECTORAL CAMPAIGNS

Carolyn and her team are smart and strategic. They have relationships in Colorado to impact decision makers and mobilize constituencies to influence policy decisions. They are some of the most effective field and communications operatives in our national network. We’ve continued to call on them for our Colorado work and recommend them highly to others.

CIVIL AND WORKERS RIGHTS

We have a long history of winning protections for workers and consumers that includes securing remedies for discrimination for workers based on gender, race and sexual orientation, expanding the investigatory power of the Colorado Department of Labor to better address wage theft, giving power to local governments to enact minimum wage policies that better fit the costs of living in their communities, passing the country’s most comprehensive paid sick days policy, expanded overtime and whistleblower protections for Colorado workers. These efforts were accomplished by traditional lobbying and extensive coalition building of businesses, faith leaders, community organizations, labor and civil rights groups.

CONSUMER PROTECTIONS

We led the grass-tops and grassroots advocacy to build support among Colorado’s Congressional delegation to pass the Wall Street Reform bill that created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Our work included building a coalition of advocates and engaging them to conduct grassroots communications to our delegation, conducting meetings and roundtables with our Congressional Representatives and Senators, organizing rallies and press events to build support for the bill.  We continue to work for further reform of the financial industry and access to legal rights for consumers and homeowners including adding standards and raising penalties for violation in the Colorado Consumer Protection Act.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS

Colorado has been a national leader in establishing a renewable energy standard for well over a decade. We have continually worked to defend this standard against attacks at the state legislature. Siegel Long Public Affairs has worked diligently to organize community members, organizations, and key stakeholders to pass the largest piece of oil and gas regulation in nearly 70 years. Our work has included nation leading climate and clean energy policy, as well as protecting public lands, passing mining law reforms, protecting water quality, expanding electric vehicle infrastructure, and promoting environmental justice.

IMMIGRANT RIGHTS

We have worked to advance immigrant rights throughout our firm’s history. We worked to repeal an onerous “show me your papers” law in Colorado which required law enforcement to report individuals “suspected” of being undocumented to federal immigration authorities. Siegel Public Affairs worked to expand protections for undocumented individuals such as prohibiting arrest or detainment solely for immigration status, prohibiting personal information sharing between probation officers and federal immigration services and ensuring advisement of rights. We also helped advocate for laws that allow undocumented individuals to legally drive in Colorado by providing the opportunity to obtain drivers licenses. More recently, we fought to be the first state in the country to expand the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to immigrant workers.

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS

Siegel Long Public Affairs has advocated to protect a women’s right to choose, to create policies that advance access to reproductive health and promote reproductive justice. Our work had included expanded access to reproductive health care through programs that provide birth control options at low to no cost, expanded protections for pregnant workers, as well as defeating harmful personhood measures both at the capitol and on the ballot. Additionally, our team led the field campaign on the No on 67 personhood amendment which was soundly defeated.

VOTING RIGHTS

Siegel Long Public Affairs led the effort to pass one of the best models for voter participation in the country through passage of same day registration and all mail ballots in 2013. In 2019 we expanded the program by adding new voting service and polling centers, as well as requiring that large campuses have drop boxes and voting centers. In addition, we are proud to have championed a policy that expanded and modernized Colorado’s automatic voter registration program to include Medicaid applicants, making Colorado one of the first in the nation to do so. By bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders including voting rights advocates and county clerks—stakeholders who had previously been pitted against one another—we were able to create an effective lobbying and messaging campaign to pass expansive voting bills over multiple legislative sessions.

Siegel Long Public Affairs has taken New Era’s work to the next level. As an organization that represents young people, we often have to fight for a seat at the table. Siegel brings us to the table and represents our interests with honesty and integrity. They are always thinking of new and creative ways to make movement on our issues. The Siegel team is well-respected, highly experienced, and incredibly knowledgeable—due to their partnership, we have been able to center young people’s issues and remarkable progress on student debt protections in Colorado. We could not recommend their work more!
